After a long hiatus, Shankar Ehsaan Loy is back to composing music for Bollywood movies with Wake Up Sid, an album of refreshing soft rock tracks that will just make u feel good and happy.
The songs all r good, though they sound a bit repetitive, but they make for great casual listening.
Though U cant call the music- great or original, its worth hearing with good renditions by Shankar Mahadevan, Clinton Cerejo et al. The tracks are reminiscent of the kind of soft rock tracks that are played in the soundtrack of Teenage Hollywood movies.
My personal favorites are the songs, Life is Crazy and Wake up Sid. The song Ik Tara is also hummable!!!
In short, Great music for ur Ipod!!! :)

Kaminey: An oasis in the desert of duds
It was a new experience - to watch a movie on the very first day and the very first show, that was how i watched Kaminey today and glad that it didnt turn out to be a disaster.
First thing u can say about the movie is that it is not the typical run-of-the-mill Bollywood movies that follows a repetitive ages old "formula", a refreshing change indeed.
It is not a slick action thriller as the promos suggest, but instead the story of two twins who rediscover themselves in the most extreme circumstances.
The story is well told and the style of narration will u leave spellbound, but at some points it gets too slow. but except for that its a decent movie and lives upto Vishal Bharadwaj's credibility.
Shahid Kapoor delivers the best performance of his career as the twin brothers. He brings to alive both the characters which are as different as chalk n cheese and even the double role has been handled with great technical finesse that u dont feel the presence of a body double in any of the shots. Priyanka Chopra's role is limited to some passionate scenes in the beginning and then for the rest she is simply howling and crying, which she manages to do quite well. The other actors who are not very familiar too deliver a commendable performance.
And another aspect of the movie is the speech disorders of the twin brothers which is quite unique and gives u a few laughs and doesnt irritate u at any point. The lisp of Charlie is really funny indeed and the promotional campaign of the movie has tried to make the viewers aware of that and that too in an ingenious manner of misspelling the movie taglines.
Humour appears in the most unintended manner at the most unnerving places in the movie, which is a welcome sign in contrast to the awful slapstick made-up humor in bollywood movies these days.
Overall, the movie is quite an engaging watch but unwinds at a slow pace that could a be a tad boring. Kaminey thus comes in as the oasis in the desert of dud movies this year.
On a scale of 5, i wud give it a 3.

Flu everywhere!!!
Whats the big deal about Swine Flu, apart from the fact that its a west originated phenomenon sweeping the globe.
Ok, its highly contagious, fine, but we have faced even deadlier flus in the past like Chickunguniya, Dengue and the like, which had created far more mortalities than this new flu. Dont get me wrong, I fully realize the potential hazards of this possible pandemic. But i just get the feeling that this seems to be a over reaction and panicking, instead of exercising restraint and being careful.
1200 global deaths as of now is nothing compared to the flu related mortalities in our country. The figures suggest something else..
Maybe this is a ploy by Pharma companies to boost their soon-to-be-developed vaccines ...
The media should restrain itself from creating panic!!
Hope the Flu doesnt add to the woes of the economy and the people!!

Mobile Phones - some things to think about
Where do you store your mobile phones while on the move??
The answer would most probably be on ur shirt/jeans pocket??
That leaves us with two possibilities of storage on-the-go... either your shirt pocket or your jeans pocket.
Dressmakers had created shirts with pockets conventionally on the left side near to your pocket. Maybe they didnt have the foresightedness back then that people would store these radiation emitters so dangerously close to ur heart. So maybe its time that we have pockets on the right side, however inconvenient it may seem in the beginning, at least to lengthen the pacemaking activity of your heart.
Now the jeans pocket,-
I have felt how tights the pockets are in the denims, yet we manage to squeeze our mobile phones inside them, leaving them near your ****(u know where!!), thus making you eligible for Involuntary Birth Control (circumlocution again, for the sake of non-explicitness). But in case of your jeans, fashionistas have to come up with something ingenious to minimize the radiation exposure below the belt.
I also suspect a divine hand in the invention of mobile phones as a way of controlling the human population on earth. See how indispensable it has become in our day to day lives.
To make matters worse even for the non users, a slew of new Mobile operators are coming up(in the already crowded space) in every state (or circle, as they put it), subjecting our brains with even more radiation than at present from the towers. Maybe the govt should stop issuing fresh licenses and look into the health hazards.
These are just a few concerns about mobile phones, there are even more which havent been found out yet. By the time we will all have been screwed!!!

Conspicuously Coincidental!!

I have always wondered about how similar the brand surnames of TATA are...
Indica, Indigo, Indicom...
But thats not wat i'm referring to in case u r wondering wat so out of the world about that...
Strangely TATA unveiled their GSM brand under the TATA Docomo branding which is a JV with NTT Docomo of Japan. The new Brand Tata Docomo bears some semblance(somewat like an anagram, albeit not exactly) to the original TATA telecom brand, TATA Indicom... Thats why i said, "Conspicuously Coincidental"!!! What else would u say when an incidental JV brings up a similar sounding brand name!!
Clockwork spectacle - while I am asleep!!

The clock struck the rare combination of all the digits in the increasing order shortly after midnight.
Though i had received many results reminding about the "clockwork" spectacle, I was fast asleep by the time.
Frankly, the so called spectacle failed to amuse me...
It happens for a second and makes no difference!! Just like any other second!!! But for latwe night party animals, another reason for a shot of vodka!!!

Questions we face!!!
When we grow up in our society and socialize with people, we are often faced with questions from elders that often make us uneasy and added to that the pressure to present a pleasant countenance and give a befitting reply that will satisfy the questioner and also lessen the chances of further queries.
Most people especially Malayalis have to face it. I said so coz Malayalis have this over inquisitiveness in other's lives , comparing it with their own and drawing conclusions - a kind of perverted concern.
These questions or should i rather call them "bouncers" are to be countered so carefully that it threatens to rip apart the veils that u put up before others to hide ur desperation. So its important that u dont lose ur cool.
Some of the difficult questions that i had to face during the course of my life till now...
While at School:
Q: What position are u in ur class??
A: Well, maybe in the first 5. We dont exactly have the class rankings.
Q: Oh.. Thats not enough, u have to be the first. (Heaving a sigh of relief that I am not ahead of their children)
A: Will keep that in mind!! (whew!!)
Q: Son, do u have any creative aptitude like singing, dancing etc??
A: Well, no.. I am a big zero in that.
Q: Oh, Our son Rohit (fictitious names) is always away from home.. These inter school competitions, i wish he were not talented... (like you)... he hardly has time for studies... but manages to remain the topper too.....
Questions at school level are as u see much more easier to counter though its irritating...
Vacations after your 12th standards (Post Entrance and Board results):
Q: Wats the rank??
A: 24k
Q: Wat happened??
A: No coaching..
Q: Then wats next??
A: Maybe degree..
Q: Oh.. Who wants these degrees?? Try engineering.. so many colleges round the corner..
A: Not interested..
Q: Oh, no. dont say that!! Thats the way to go... My nephew completed engineering and now in Infy, getting 25k salary, now going to US, see where it can take you!!
A: Ok, will try..
Q: If not merit, management seats. Ur dad has the money, na??
A: ????? (Ur mind (or your parents') has just been split wide open)
While in engineering college:
Q: Which sem??
Q: Wats ur GPA??
Q: Why, so low?? without 70% its a waste doing engineering ( same ppl who said no career without engineering)
Q: Any backlogs??
A: Yes ( Flustering, trying to hide ur anguish)
Q: Oh my god!! Its a difficult journey now. U shud clear it before 6th sem or else no placements (and u r screwed)
A: Hmm yeah!! ( Already looking for the exit door)
After finishing B.tech
Q: Placements???
A: NO
Oh yeah, forgot to add, a big thanks to the Americans for screwing up their home loans, u have just given a new lease of life to the bequeathed souls just managed to squeak out of Engg college.
U have given us the golden word of salvation..... RECESSION!!!!!!!!!!!
A: Post recession, no companies coming to campuses.. (sounding disappointed, but glad to have found a superb excuse)
Q: The situation might improve. So wats next then??
A: Preparing for some tests or higher studies!! Meanwhile got a part-time job in a BPO firm. 5k salary but late night work.
Q: Why u spoiling ur family name by going for such menial jobs??
A: (creaking noise, of dashing hopes, hoping that none of your parents r nearby, or else it might be a big blow to ur hopes of raking up some badly needed pocket money)
Just a temporary job, i quit when i want!!
These questions can be a nightmare for loafers like u and me. But for go-getters (or top notch nerds, as we may call them), these are perfect platforms to get an envious look from others.
I have taken a decision that myself being a victim of these difficult questions, I make it a point never to question the younger generation akin to this, Or will i fall victim to the
"Why-should-me-alone-suffer??" syndrome?? Only time can tell!!!

ഹരിശ്രീ ഗണപതയേ നമ:
Taking my first baby steps to the world of blogging. What better way than to start with a Ganesh stuti..
I have always been in two minds wenever my mind countered the decision to start a blog...
Always been bogged by questions like, "what shall i write??" "who will read my thoughts??" and all that...
But finally i have overcome all resistances from within and express myself.. :)
i start this not for anyone else but for myself and not for others to read and enjoy.. coz there's nothin going to be worthwhile enough for others to read and take interest in.. this is something of a personal web diary for me.. a space to jot down the inrush of ideas that sometimes flock my mind. and who knows if i can make up something of it later... rather than losing it to newer thoughts gushing in everyday... U see wat little sense it makes having read all this... yes.. i am a man of many words... my friends know that well... i have many a time taken circumlocution to whole new levels... i dont know if thats going to be my USP in the years ahead of me..
I am still in two minds if i shud let anyone read this so-called-blog.
As i sign this off first ever blog post of my life, i sincerely hope that i get enough bytes everyday to load the google servers further with trashy information... As i always say,
" There's always room for more bakwaas!!!"
Bye dear blog for now.. will be back... mightier... stronger and more ideas hopefully!!!
